Winter Warmers

We all knew this day would come. I thought I had more time! Alas, winter is upon us. Enough complaining. There’s a lot to like about winter. Perhaps the best thing – staying home! So let’s get our homes prepped for winter. We’ve put together a list of jobs that might need doing to make sure you’re ready to combat the cold this winter.

Insulation

You know that amazing feeling when you’re in bed and it’s freezing outside, but you’re all snug and warm with your doona on top of you? Imagine if all you had was the doona cover without the doona inside…horrible. It’s kind of like a house without effective insulation.

Effective insulation can also save you money! More heat retained means your heater doesn’t need to work as hard, which means your electricity bill doesn’t need to go through the roof during winter.

Doors and Window seals

Let’s talk seals. Not the playful ocean acrobats or the grammy award winning artist known for comparing people to a kiss from a rose on the grey. The kind of seals that keep the cold out and the warm in – window and door seals. I’m not sure about you, but the only draught I like in the winter is the kind you get at the pub. If you’re the same, give us a call!

Fireplace

“Chim chiminey, chim chiminey, chim chim cher-ee!” We don’t all have a troop of chimney sweeps dancing on our rooftops. However, we all need to make sure our fireplaces are safe and well-maintained heading into winter. Get organised now so you can start toasting marshmallows!

If you’ve got a fireplace it’s really important to ensure it is safe for use. Over time, creosote and soot can stick to the inner lining of your chimney. When exposed to a spark or ember from a newly lit fire, this can lead to chimney fires. Solution – Hire A Hubby.

Gutters, Downpipes, Drains

We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again. It’s really important to clean out your gutters twice a year (particularly after the autumn fall).

Ever wondered what the purpose of a rain gutter is? Rain gutters divert water away from the soil beneath your home, reducing the long-term effects of erosion and protecting the foundations of your home. Pretty important.

Curtains

One of the biggest culprits of heat loss in the winter is our windows. Good news – there is an easy solution. Curtains! Not only are they a practical solution for heat loss and keeping light out, they can be a feature of your home. Think of curtains like a feature wall that can be pulled back when you’re after a more natural look.

If you need curtains installed correctly, you know who to call. And while we’re there why not have us take care of all your wall-mounting needs. Pictures, mirrors, TVs – we’ve got you covered.
